Dear Team Winnie,
Where AM I? Today is the final day of a writing retreat in the center of Michigan. I came with one Winnie story to rewrite and ended up telling another. Winnie is now taking gymnastics and figuring out how to be supportive of other gymnasts. That means I'm now researching beginning gymnastic workouts and lessons. The 2nd draft is coming along.
This retreat/renewal center is the perfect place for peaceful penmanship. We are not required to wash dishes, do laundry, dust, or feed partners. Our meals are prepared and the beds are comfy. And I found a swing in the sun to satisfy chilly cheeks.
My April is turning into a busy month, with another trip scheduled for NEXT weekend to Davenport. There I will be displaying Winnie Acts Up in the SCBWI (Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators) conference bookstore and will participate in a book signing. I will get to chat with lots of authors and illustrators and look at scores of new books for kids.
I'd like to write to you more often, if you don't mind. Bella's book has just gone to the illustrator so that's also news. I'll save that for the next letter.
Watch the eclipse safely tomorrow! If I want to see it I will have to stop along I69 south and I'm pretty anxious to get home to Gary and Bella.
